MINEFIELDS

Please don't look at me like that.
We are already at the touching stage.
Lightly, cautiously...but touching.
Close, but not too close,
Not today.
Courting dangerous thoughts but
careful not to step over "The Boundry."
How long will this take?
This ritual of getting close.
Close enough to let our guards down...
and surrender.
I carry no weapons.
I am defenseless and vulnerable.
Your smile did that to me, but I am
completely prepared for the journey.
Your move.
Be careful though,
there are minefields everywhere.
I did not place them,
but I know where they are.
Take my hand...
I will lead you through them.

KATCOMPANY
DEAR FRIEND

I thought about you this morning and
I shivered as a chill swept over me.
I was remembering one of the
Old "Alexandria Days."
I was alone with you, by the water.

Your hands slipped around my waist
at the river's edge, making me weak
with desire and my knees buckled from
the sensation.
Sensuous thoughts come to mind
when I think of you and other things
we could have done,
if we had had more time.

Precious though
are those few sweet memories that I do have.
Sometimes they make me smile to myself.
But mostly I am sad because I lost my dear friend.

I will always remember you.

You have to be careful
lest you lose your heart
to some thief in the night.

YOU MOVED TO CALIFORNIA
Upon your return visit
Your brought me flowers
Stolen from my neighbors yard.
I laughed at your antics.
I had missed that, since you moved away.

The next night you brought more
Stolen from D.C.'s glitter streets.
I gave you kisses for your gifts
and gentle tears
Wishing you'de only bring with you
your heart.
But it was in California, where you left it.
Three thousand miles away.
